If you’re one of the few who liked this summer’s Fantastic Four, we’ve got some good news for you. Despite overwhelmingly negative reviews and becoming one of the least successful comic book movies of all-time, Fantastic Four writer/producer Simon Kinberg reveals he’s hard at work on a sequel. While promoting his upcoming film The Martian, which he produced, at this year’s Toronto International Film Festical, Kinberg told MTV News that he’s quote, “really focused on the next one” saying that despite being disappointed most that the fans didn’t like it, he thinks there’s a great Fantastic Four movie to be made with the same cast and they are currently in the process trying to figure out what that movie would be. Fantastic Four 2 currently has a June 9th, 2017 release date, but will likely be pushed if the studio does in fact decide to move forward on a sequel. One person who doesn’t see that happening is star Kate Mara, who played “Sue Storm” in the film. Also speaking with MTV, Mara said she thinks a sequel is unlikely, but would quote, “love to play Sue Storm in a movie that everybody loves.” In a separate interview, Mara told The Times that the harsh reviews caused her to be gun-shy about even seeing Fantastic Four and despite all the reported issues, she insists she had a good time making the movie. As for those rumors that Taylor Swift would be making a cameo as the musical mutant “Dazzler” in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, Kinberg officially put that rumor to bed saying quote, “No, there’s nothing to it. I know where [the rumor] came from, because it’s my fault.” The rumor started back in July when Kinberg posted this pic of himself, along with Apocalypse stars James McAvoy and Sophie Turner with Swift. Kinberg explained that he was listening to Swift’s music every morning while filming Apocalypse to help him get energized and when Swift’s tour came to Montreal, where they were filming, he and some of the cast members decided to go. Swift invited them backstage and took photos with them and the rest is history. Though it sounds like we won’t be seeing Swift as “Dazzler” in next year’s X-Men Apocalypse, Kinberg did find the idea interesting, so perhaps we could see it happen sometime in the future?
