Rachel McAdams is ready to get her magic on as the newest addition to the cast of Doctor Strange. Almost two months after first confirming to be in the running for a lead role in Marvel’s upcoming Doctor Strange movie, Rachel McAdams has officially confirmed her casting to The Wrap while at the Toronto Film Festival. Back in July, McAdams told the L.A. Times that she was talking to the studio about a possible role in the film calling it “super-early days” and didn’t know if it would actually happen, but now she will officially join Benedict Cumberbatch in the film that will introduce audiences to the mystical side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though McAdams has been confirmed to play the female lead, which character that will actually be remains a mystery. The most likely candidate is “Clea”, a sorceress with similar powers to Cumberbatch’s “Strange” who eventually becomes the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension and weds Strange. McAdams was most recently seen on the second season of True Detective and this summer’s Southpaw opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. She’ll next star opposite fellow comic book movie stars Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton and Live Schrieber in the drama Spotlight. In addition to Cumberbatch and McAdams, Doctor Strange is set to star Tilda Swinton as Doctor Strange’s mentor, “The Ancient One” and Chiwetel Ejiofor as “Baron Mordo” a former student of The Ancient One who eventually becomes one of Doctor Strange’s biggest rivals. Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen is rumored to be in talks to play the film’s main villain. Production on Doctor Strange is currently set to begin in November for a November 4th, 2016 release.
