With an Emmy nomination and now a possible role in the Star Wars universe, things are looking good for Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. We still have this December’s The Force Awakens to look forward to, but pre-production on 2017’s Star Wars Episode 8 is currently underway and The Wrap reports that Tatiana Maslany is among a shortlist of actresses being eyed for a lead role in the film. Maslany has earned a large fanbase with her breakout role on the hit series Orphan Black where she plays several different and very unique characters. After being shunned at last year’s Emmy’s, to the disappointment of her many fans, Maslany was nominated for an Emmy this year which will be handed out later this month. Maslany was previously in the running for the lead role in next year’s first Star Wars Anthology film, Rogue One, but the part ultimately went to Felicity Jones. Maslany will reportedly be vying for the lead role against Gina Rodriguez who won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her series Jane the Virgin and Olivia Cooke who recently starred as a teenager with cancer in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. No word yet on what the actual role will be, but some are already speculating that it could be Han Solo’s daughter. According to sources, all three actresses are set to do chemistry-reads with John Boyega, who plays “Finn” in The Force Awakens and is expected to be among the actors who return for the sequel. It was previously announced that Benicio del Toro was in talks to play the film’s main villain and he is expected to close his deal soon.
