Move over Mario, it looks like Mega Man has his eyes set on breaking the video game movie curse. Tracking Board reports that 20th Century Fox is teaming with Chernin Entertainment to adapt the long running Mega Man video game series into a feature film. Peter Chernin, the man behind the recent Planet of the Apes films and this summer’s Spy will produce the film that will focus on Mega Man, a robot boy with the ability to mimic weapons who is created to battle the mad scientist Dr. Wily and his army of robots who are attempting to take over the world. One of the most recognizable characters in video games, Mega Man has sold over 30 million copies since his debut in 1987. The character previously made the jump to the small screen in 1994 for an animated series that lasted two seasons. Mega Man will join a continuing growing number of video game movies currently in the works. 2016 alone will see debuts of animated films based on Ratchet and Clank, Angry Birds and Sly Cooper and live-action versions of Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed as well as a sixth and final Resident Evil movie.
