We know from the latest Batman v Superman trailer that General Zod will make an appearance in the film and Michael Shannon is sharing some new and unusual info about his return. Just a word of warning before we start, there could potentially be some spoilers ahead, so proceed at your own risk. Okay, so in a recent interview with Vulture while promoting his new film 99 Homes, Man of Steel’s resident bad guy Michael Shannon confirmed what we already know that he will in fact be making a return in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The latest trailer showed Shannon’s “General Zod” as a corpse seemingly in the hands of Jesse Eisenberg’s “Lex Luthor”. [1] So Zod’s return isn’t too intriguing, but Shannon did relay a story of one scene that got him in a bit of trouble that brings up an interesting twist. Shannon said quote, “I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder] being like, 'Where’s Shannon?…I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, 'Let me out of here!'” Lucky for Shannon he was rescued by the craft service person who opened the door for him, but the interesting part of the story is that Zod has “flippers for hands”. What?! Something tells us he won’t be transforming into The Penguin in the film, so what exactly is going on? Shannon wouldn’t elaborate, but some have speculated that he’ll be somehow transformed into the powerful villain “Doomsday” best known for killing Superman in the comics. Others have suggested the flippers are just part of his mocap suit or some type of green screen cover to allow his hands to appear missing in the film, but he does say, “in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands” suggesting he’ll actually have flippers for hands in the film. So lots to ponder as we eagerly await Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to arrive in theaters on March 25th, but what do you think?
