Today’s episode of Clevver News Feed is brought to you by The Mindy Project, an all -new season now available, exclusively on Hulu! It was only a matter of time before another major name director decided to jump into the sequel game. Though he won’t be directing, Ridley Scott has already stated his involvement in the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, but it seems the legendary sci-fi director’s sights are set on another story continuation – Prometheus 2. We’ve known for about a month now that Scott has officially made the Prometheus sequel his next film, but now word is coming from the director himself that this won’t be the only foray back in to the Prometheus world. Scott is currently on a press tour for The Martian but naturally people are asking him about his next film instead with some of the more burning questions being in regard to the Prometheus sequel and its potential ties to the Alien franchise. Responding to a question from German movie site FilmFutter about whether Prometheus would directly correlate with Alien, Scott simply said, “Yes,” but added the caveat this sequel won’t be the one to do it, rather stating that it’ll happen in the NEXT one or even a fourth saying quote, “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself.” Sounds like Scott is thinking of the Prometheus universe as a, well, universe and though his original Alien film spawned a large franchise, the director really wasn’t the one churning out the films, instead being more of a source of inspiration and he’s stuck to that until now. Prometheus 2 will be his first official sequel and now it seems, the beginning of a much larger universe. What those Alien connections will be is still very much in the air, but we know they’ll be related to Noomi Rapace’s “Dr. Elizabeth Shaw” and her Michael Fassbender robot head companion’s search for the “engineers,” as Scott previously confirmed to Deadline saying he was more than intrigued by exploring the question of where the Aliens and their technology came from and its subversive relationship to our own human understanding of where exactly it is we came from. And if that’s not enough, an actual Alien sequel is still coming from District 9’s Neil Blomkamp, who has already said he had to change a major plot point due to Ridley’s tinkering of the universe in Prometheus. Will this new Alien movie tease a tie-in as well?
