Elizabeth Banks appears to be the pitch perfect choice to helm another Charlie’s Angels movie. The Hollywood Reported is bringing word that Sony Pictures has plans to reboot the Charlie’s Angels franchise and is currently in talks with Elizabeth Banks to produce and direct. Banks made her directorial debut with this summer’s Pitch Perfect 2 which opened to an impressive $70 million in its opening weekend becoming the 2nd biggest for a female director just behind Fifty Shades of Grey. Banks is also set to helm the young adult fantasy, Red Queen for Universal and a third Pitch Perfect movie is set for July 21st, 2017, but no word if Banks will return behind the camera for that. As for the new Charlie’s Angels movie, considering Banks’ connection with comedy, it seems likely the reboot will take the action comedy approach of its predecessor rather than the more serious tone of the 1970’s television series. The original film starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu as a trio of former police detectives turned private investigators who solve crimes for a mysterious, wealthy figure known as “Charlie” who only communicates via telephone or through his employee, Bosley. The 2000 film was a big hit earning around $260 million worldwide. A sequel was released in 2003 with a higher budget, but failed to top the box office of the original and any plans for subsequent sequels were quickly shelved. The franchise was once again attempted to be revived in 2011 as a television series, but was cancelled after just four episodes. No word yet if Banks would star in the new film or which actresses could make up the “Angels”, but what do you think?
