DC Comics fans it’s time to get excited as Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are set to team up on the big screen. The Tracking Board brings word that Warner Brothers is currently developing a team-up movie featuring lesser known DC heroes Booster Gold and Blue Beetle. In what is being pitched as a buddy cop movie that happens to feature two superheroes, the planned film will be directed by Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl writer/executive producer Greg Berlanti with Heroic Hollywood reporting that The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn will jump from Marvel to DC to write the script. Unlike most of DC’s slate of films, the Booster Gold/Blue Beetle film will take a more comedic approach to the superhero genre. For those of you unfamiliar, Booster Gold is a disgraced football star from 25th century Gotham City who steals superhero and supervillain artifacts to travel back in time to become a superhero in the present day. He starts out very self-absorbed and egotistic, but eventually learns to become a real hero. A reference to Booster Gold was seen via a “Blaze Comics” logo in Man of Steel. As for Blue Beetle, he and fellow Justice League member Booster Gold are often paired together and are best friends. He does not possess any superpowers, but instead uses his genius-level intellect to create gadgets to fight crime. He has often been credited as being smarter than even Batman. Booster Gold had previously appeared in the DC series Smallville and Berlanti had penned a script for a possible series for SyFy, so it’s a character he’s very familiar with. Berlanti’s last feature directing credit was the 2010 romantic comedy Life as We Know It starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. No word yet on when we can expect Booster Gold and Blue Beetle to make their big screen debut, but sources say they will be set up to join the Justice League in a future film.
