We’re breaking it down right here on Clevver Newsfeed. We may still be months away from the new Star Wars film arriving in theaters, but analysts are already predicting the biggest opening of all-time. 2015 has already been a record breaking year starting with April’s Furious 7 which broke the record for reaching $1 billion in the fastest time in just 17 days. Of course, that record didn’t last long once Jurassic World roared into theaters and managed to do it in just 13 days. In addition to that record, Jurassic World also holds many others including biggest domestic, international and worldwide opening, and is currently the third highest grossing film of all-time with over $1.6 billion in receipts. As impressive as that is though, analysts are already predicting those records to fall and by huge amounts. Early predictions for Star Wars The Force Awakens are suggesting we could potentially see a domestic opening as big as $300 million which would shatter Jurassic World’s current $208.8 million opening and things look even better internationally. Despite not having the benefit of the China market thanks to a Hollywood blackout during that time, The Force Awakens is predicted to make around $315 million internationally during its opening weekend, the same as Jurassic World, bringing its potential global cume to around $615 million. In contrast, Jurassic World holds the current record with $524.4 million. Of course, whether or not it can surpass Avatar as the biggest movie of all-time depends on word-of-mouth and if people will be interested in multiple viewings. With little competition at the multiplexes, Star Wars The Force Awakens will likely hold the top spot at least until the weekend of January 29th when Kung Fu Panda 3 arrives in theaters. It will also have all Imax screens to itself for 4 weeks, something that hasn’t been done since The Hobbit films. So lots of info, but what do you think?
