It’s long been rumored and now it looks all but confirmed that Hugh Jackman will return as “Wolverine” in next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse! Hugh Jackman has not been secretive about the fact that he will be hanging up his claws and retiring from playing “Wolverine” after the 2017 solo film, but he has been less straightforward about whether or not he’ll be reprising the role in next year’s X-Men outing. Last year’s Days of Future Past set up a likely return with his once again amnesia inflicted character avoiding the Weapons X program and instead going off with Mystique into an uncertain future. With Apocalypse taking place in the 80’s and the third Wolverine movie likely taking place in present day or, if a recent rumor has any truth, perhaps the distant future of the comic “Old Man Logan” storyline, it seems logical for Jackman to at least make a cameo in Apocalypse and a recent Instagram post could finally confirm his return. Eagle-eyed fans discovered a recent post from New York-based leather company KikaNY that showed sketches for a bag with the caption, “We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X-Men movie in Montreal. We started sketching – The bag will be ready next week.” They went on to say the bag was “dark brown with a walnut strap” and considered posting a pic, but weren’t sure if they should because of quote, “[the] shady producer of photo shoot.” A photo of the actual bag was never posted and though this does not 100% confirm Jackman’s appearance, the post has since been removed. Wolverine became Apocalypse’s Horsemen “Death” in the comments and many fans are speculating he’ll take on a similar role in the film. Of course, we may not have to wait until May to see Jackman back as “Wolverine” as he has also been rumored to have a cameo in this February’s Deadpool movie where he would reunite with his X-Men Origins co-star Ryan Reynolds. Both actors have expressed interest in it happening, but said it would come down to whether or not schedules worked out. Jackman so far is the only actor to have appeared in all 7 X-Men films and we’ll have to wait and see if he continues his streak, but do you want to see him at least make a cameo when X-Men: Apocalypse arrives in theaters on May 27th or would you prefer to see some other characters get the spotlight?
