Despite a lackluster domestic box office, more Terminator movies are still coming, though not as soon as originally planned. Arnold Schwarzenegger always says he’ll be back and apparently so will the Terminator franchise. Despite making a disappointing $90 million at the US box office earlier this summer, Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Goldberg announced at this year’s Media Leadership Conference that they are moving forward on the planned sequels though they won’t be making the original 2017 and 2018 release dates. According to Goldberg, despite being disappointed with the film’s domestic box office, Genisys did well overseas, particularly in China bringing in around $440 million worldwide. She cited that the film industry has changed over the past 10 – 15 years and though domestic box office is still important, studios are now playing to a global audience. Goldberg went on to say that they are no longer planning to go into production on a sixth film early next year and are instead re-adjusting and planning to do a worldwide study to find out what fans like about the franchise and what they could have done differently and using that data to move forward on the sequels and a planned television series.
