Spider-Man is set to officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in next year’s Captain America: Civil War and a new report suggests he’ll have a much larger role than we originally thought. According to Birth Movies Death’s sources, new Spider-Man, Tom Holland, has already shot his scenes for next summer’s Civil War, but Spider-Man has actually been on the set for some time with the role being played by a stunt double. Though there is no specifics on the number of scenes he’ll be included in, sources say he’ll be getting his hands dirty for a good portion of the film and will have at least one fight scene that is being described as “profoundly dorky and unlike any other big screen superhero fight” we’ve seen before. So expect Tom Holland’s “Peter Parker” to appear in what is basically described as a cameo, but a lot more from Spider-Man himself. Of course, after Captain America 3, we can look forward to a lot more of Tom Holland when the standalone Spider-Man movie arrives in theaters on July 28th, 2017 and we’ve heard talk before that they will skip the origin story this time around and the film’s writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein confirmed this in a recent interview with The Andy Greenwald Podcast. The pair explained that everybody pretty much knows his origin story at this point and they don’t need to show him once again getting bit by a spider or Uncle Ben dying. Instead, they can focus on his issues of dealing with high school saying quote, “It’ll be a fun departure from the Peter Parker that you’ve seen where now, he is truly a kid and I think the stakes are increased in that his struggle through high school is very real and isn’t just a sort of side note. It matters now.” Daley and Goldstein went on to say they are still in the early stages of the writing process and will be meeting with Sony and Marvel this week to go over plans and get their first look at the suit, but what do you think of Spider-Man’s reported increased role in Captain America: Civil War and are you glad they’re skipping his origin story?
