With a new chairman at the helm, Sony Pictures has set its slate through 2017 with no less than 16 films on the way. New Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman has announced release dates for several upcoming films including two Bad Boys sequels and a reboot to the 1995 kid movie classic, Jumanji. The new take on Jumanji will arrive in theaters on December 25th, 2016 followed by Bad Boys 3 on February 17th, 2017. A fourth Bad Boys movie is set to arrive a little over two years later on July 3rd, 2019. No word yet if stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence will reprise their roles, but we do know The Grey director Joe Carnahan will take over directing duties from Michael Bay for at least the 3rd film. In addition to the two Bad Boys sequels and Jumanji reboot, Sony has moved the all-female Ghosbusters movie up a week from July 22nd to July 15th putting it up against Fox’s Ice Age 5, action-thriller The Lake and the musical La La Land starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They’ve also set the Matt Smith zombie movie Patient Zero for September 2nd, The Magnificent Seven starring Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington will move from January 13th, 2017 to September 23rd, Underworld 5 starring Kate Beckinsale will arrive in theaters on October 5th and Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt’s Passengers has landed a December 21st, 2016 release. The long in development The Dark Tower movie based on Stephen King’s series of books will kick off 2017 on January 13th followed by Resident Evil 6 starring Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter on January 27th. Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver starring Lily James and Ansel Elgort is set for March 17th and a live-action Barbie movie will make its debut on June 2nd. Also in 2017 will be the adaptation of the video game Uncharted on June 30th and the animated The Lamb will bah its way into theaters on December 8th. These films will all join the previously announced 2017 releases that include the new Spider-Man movie, The Equalizer 2 and The Da Vinci Code sequel, Inferno.
