There apparently is no grace period when it comes to rebooting movies in Hollywood. It may have only been five years since we last saw Freddy Krueger haunt our dreams on the big screen, but The Tracking Board reports that New Line Cinema is moving forward with yet another A Nightmare On Elm Street remake. Orphan and Wrath of the Titans writer David Leslie Johnson has been tapped to write the screenplay, but that appears to be the only talent involved at the moment as it doesn’t look like Michael Bay, who produced the 2010 remake, will be involved. That film was a modest hit earning around $90 million worldwide on an estimated budget of around $27 million, but was panned by both critics and fans of the franchise earning a paltry 15% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and 44% audience score, hence the reboot. According to The Tracking Board, the studio is going back to the drawing board for the new film and hope to create something more worthy of the original. Of course, it could be a while before we see a new Nightmare arrive in theaters. Screenwriter Johnson is currently busy working on the screenplay for next year’s The Conjuring 2 and was recently announced as the writer on Warner Brothers’ upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie. When Freddy does make his return to the big screen, he’ll likely have to face off against some other famous slasher heavyweights as there are currently plans for a new Halloween film, a Friday the 13th sequel and a Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel that will focus on Leatherface.
