Today’s episode of Clevver Newsfeed is brought to you by T-Mobile. Looks like those rumors of Chris Pine taking on the role of the new Green Lantern were just that. The Wrap reports that Pine has closed his deal to star opposite Gal Gadot in the 2017 Wonder Woman movie and will play our favorite Amazonian’s love interest, “Steve Trevor”. Though Steve Trevor is known for crash landing on Paradise Island and earning the affection of the beautifully strong Amazon, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman, he’s also known for his ties to Amanda Waller, whose name you may recognize as the lead government official in charge of organizing the Suicide Squad. In the New 52 storyline, Steve attempts to convince Waller that Wonder Woman and her fellow Amazons aren’t a threat to the world as Waller and the government suspect. That isn’t Steve’s only government tie though, he’s also the head of A.R.G.U.S. – The Advanced Research Group for Uniting Super-Humans. The title of that organization alone should tell audiences that Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor will likely be involved with more than just Diana’s Wonder Woman alter ego – after all, in the comics, A.R.G.U.S and Trevor are behind the Justice League of America, as well as several other super-teams. As for what Pine’s actual role in Wonder Woman will consist of, details are certainly being kept under wraps, but we can maybe at least assume Steve Trevor is going to find his way to Paradise Island one way or another and potentially be held hostage by the Amazons until Diana can convince them otherwise. If things plays out anything like the updated comics, it’s going to be a lot more complicated than the two having the hots for one another. Steve needs to prove he doesn’t have nefarious intentions and learn to appreciate trust while Diana will have to learn how to find her humanity and affection for humans as a Goddess who only sees human destruction and corruption all around. Diana and Steve will likely help build each other into the greater heroes we know and love, so here’s hoping for a long and complicated relationship. Though we now know who Pine will play in the MCU, this leaves us wondering exactly who Scott Eastwood will be playing in next year’s Suicide Squad as he was at one point rumored to be playing Steve Trevor in the film and of course who will end up taking on the role of Green Lantern for the 2020 Green Lantern Corps movie.
