Hide your Dalmatians, Cruella De Vil is headed back to the big screen with a hot young star. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Emma Stone is currently in talks to play the iconic, puppy obsessed, Cruella De Vil in a live-action feature. The film will be a sort of re-imagined origin story of the classic Disney character ala 2014’s Maleficent, which became a huge hit for the studio earning over $700 million worldwide. While no director is currently attached to the Cruella De Vil movie, it’s reportedly a priority for the studio with plans to shoot later this year for a possible 2017 or 2018 release. Saving Mr. Banks writer Kelly Marcel is penning the script. Cruella De Vil made her big screen debut in the 1961 animated classic, 101 Dalmations. A live-action 101 Dalmations movie was released by Disney in 1996 with Glenn Close taking on the role. The character has also been seen in the Disney produced series, Once Upon A Time. Disney has recently been combing through their animated vault to see which films can be given the live-action treatment. In addition to Maleficent, the studio released a live-action version of Cinderella last year and will next release live-action versions of The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast. Other animated films set for live-action reboots include Dumbo, Pinocchio, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh and The Sword in the Stone.
